Bamboos grow up to 12 m to 30 m height, as cohort and its stem are in the form of a cylinder. Usually larger bamboo stem will have a diameter of 15 to 20 cm, they are black, green, yellow in colour they grow faster but easier to brake. In its lifespan only once it will get flowered and its flowers are Pale green in colour, once the flowers are about to open it will conceive water vapour and will make itself a larger. Its seed is just as same as rice seed.
Bamboo is having a thirst for sunlight and it can bear small fire and frost. Fun is that all the bamboos in its lifetime are flowered as a group and once the seeds are opened they will be a dead cohort. Bamboo will stop growing its stems before 2 years it’s about to get flowered. During this period, new branches of bamboo will not grow. The softer parts of the bamboo and it seed are eatable’s but only after cooking, if not cooked it’s not suggested to eat. The seeds can be eaten and cooked just like rice. Within the hollow cylindrical side of the bamboo sometimes we can see a wet white hard mixture which is called as mulavenna or mulanooru or vangarochana in kerala. In some parts of south India it is also called as kheeri, thavaksheeri, thuga, sugaksheeri, vamsi, subhaa, etc. 90% of Mulanooru contains silica and remaining 10 % is a combination of potash, lime (material), aluminum and iron composites.
