Judging Educational Prospects

Judging Educational Prospects
The 4th house in a chart indicates scholastic and collegiate education in general. The 4th house, its lord, occupants of the 4th and the aspects they receive and Mercury and Jupiter are to be considered while judging educational attainments. The 9th house represents higher education and the 2nd is the Vidyastana. The 10th is for achievement in education and the 11th for fulfillment of ambitions in education .The 3rd house shows mental inclination, memory, specialization, confidence and concentration. The 6th house indicates success in examination and competition. Hence the 2nd, 4th, 6th, 9th, 10th and 11th houses must be favorably placed for conferring good education.

What is Sub-Lord ?

When the Zodiac is divided into 27 equal parts of 130 20’, each part is called a Nakshatra. On further division of a Nakshatra into 9 parts in the order of the Vimshottari Dasas starting from the Nakshatra lord with each part being in proportion to the duration of a Dasa, we get what are known as subs. The lord of a Nakshatra is called the Nakshatra lord and the lord of the sub is called the sub-lord.

In each star, the first sub-lord is the planet who rules the Nakshatra and then the remaining sub-lords follows. For example, the first sub-lord under Aswini Nakshatra is Ketu, the second sub-lord is Venus, the third sub-lord is Sun etc. Similarly since Venus is the lord of Bharani, the first sub-lord would be Venus, the second Sun, the third Moon and so on.
The span of a sub-lord is calculated as follows:
Span of a sub-lord = Dasa period in years – 120 x 130 20’.
For example, span of sub-lord Ketu in Aries in Aswini Nakshatra
=7 ÷ 120 X 13° 20’ = 0° 46’ 40”.
Span of Sub-lord Venus in Aries in Aswini star
=20 ÷ 120 X 13° 20’ = 2° 13’ 20”

The type of education one is likely to get is shown from the inherent nature of planets connected with the 4th house. When the 4th is associated with a benefic then the native will be good at his studies. If the 4th lord occupies a malefic sign or is aspected or associated with a malefic, one cannot progress much in education. A favorable Dasa period must also operate at the proper age for doing well in studies. The Dasa and Bhukti lords show the quality and the area of education.

A well-placed 5th house, 5th lord, Mercury and Jupiter give excellent educational opportunities. The 9th sign of the Zodiac indicates teachers and lawyers, the 7th businessmen and the 8th, doctors. The sub-lord of the 3rd Bhava either owned or aspected by a malefic shows poor memory powers, lack of confidence and obstacles to education.

Mars the Nakshatra lord of the 3rd Bhava is in the Nakshatra of Mercury in association with Rahu. Rahu is in the sub of Saturn who owns the 8th cusp. Saturn is a restricting planet. So the native was denied education after schooling when running Mars Dasa. The Nakshatra lord of Rahu is also Saturn. The 4th Bhava is in the sub of Venus who is a malefic. Venus owns the sub of the 12th Bhava which is the house of defects. Saturn aspects the 4th house. The sub-lords of the 2nd, 9th, 10th and 11th Bhavas point to incomplete education.

The 4th house, the 4th lord and Vidyakaraka Mercury and Jupiter indicate education. Malefics in the 4th give breaks in studies. Jupiter and Mercury well-situated give good memory, concentration and aptitude for studies. The 4th house aspected by the 4th and the 5th lords or Jupiter indicates good educational opportunities. Whether one gets education or not is judged from sub-lords of the 4th, 9th and 11th Bhavas. These days when education has assumed great importance in getting good jobs, an astrological study of the native’s horoscope to select the right field of study can be of great help.
