Vargottama Rahu and Ketu – II

Vargottama Rahu and Ketu - II

Part II – Vargottama Rahu and Ketu

If the Dasa of Rahu does not operate in one’s life time, then the Dasa of Ketu would.
Like any other planet, Rahu or Ketu also gives results according to the Rasi Bhava, Nakshatra and Navamsa position. According to a Nadi rule, if the Rasi lord, Nakshatra lord and Navamsa lord are together it is said to increase the favourable results of the concerned planet. This rule can apply to Rahu and Ketu also.

Since the Rasi lord and the Navamsa lord are one and the same when in Vargottama it could have a strong influence on Rahu within the constraints mentioned earlier. The Nakshatra would also have a definite influence but about just one-third of the results. The remaining two-thirds will be equally controlled by the Rasi and Navamsa lords.

Chart 1: Gautam Buddha: Born April 14, 623 B.C. at about midday at 27 N 8, 83 E 05 with a balance of 15 years 1 month 6 days of Jupiter Dasa at birth.

chart1

Rahu is at 6° 54′ in Gemini in the same Navamsa in Chart 1. Rahu as well as Ketu are Vargottama, therefore. Gautama was married to Yasodhara in his 16th year. But as soon as Rahu Bhukti in Saturn Dasa commenced – and I must emphasize here the presence of Rahu in the 12th or Mokshastana, in Punarvasu(3) Nakshatra owned by the 9th lord Jupiter and Jupiter in turn is in Aswini(4) owned by Vairagyakaraka Vargottama Ketu — in his 29th year, he made the great renunciation on the day of his son Rahul’s birth.

Vargottama Rahu and Ketu carry all the qualities of giving Yogakaraka results. However, the degree of success and achievement varies according to the quality of the springboard of other planetary, Rasi and Navamsa influences. Even in the worst scenario, Vargottama Rahu and Ketu show a silver lining.
Even if one planet is in its Panchamamsa (5th Navamsa), one becomes a king; and if that planet in addition be endowed with all kinds of strength, he will be an emperor. Satabhisha (3) has this advantage in addition to its quality to cure all diseases and to revitalize one. It has also the quality to remove all the obstacles in one’s progress…

He left his young wife and child and wandered into the forest. Rahu is Vargottama in Gemini but in the 12th in Punarvasu (3) owned by Jupiter. Mercury, the planet ruling Gemini Rasi and Gemini Navamsa has a dual influence on Rahu. The Nakshatra lord Jupiter would also have an impact on such Vargottama Rahu. Rahu is aspected by debilitated Saturn in Aries with cancellation of debilitation occuring due to four factors viz., (i) Venus (ii) Mars (iii) Sun and (iv) being in a Kendra from both the Ascendant and the Moon. Saturn is the lord of the 7th and 8th from the Ascendant. Seen from Chandra Lagna or the Moon-sign, Rahu is in the 5 th controlling buddhi or dhi. Thus Rahu being in the 12th (Mokshastana) from the Ascendant comes under the triple influence of Mercury, Jupiter and Saturn. Saturn has a separating effect in so far as wife and comforts (Venus) and son (Jupiter) are concerned. This happened in his 29th year when Saturn was aspecting Rahu and was in transit commencing his 2nd round from the Sun. Though Rahu is a materialistic planet, the internal churning to find the truth led to a different kind of Yoga paving the way for the establishment of Buddhism.

Chart 2: Alexander: Born July 22, 356 B.C. between 10 and 12 at night at 40 N 43, 22 E 35 with a balance of 5 years 9 months 11 days of Jupiter Dasa at birth.

chart2

Rahu at 314° 2′ in Aquarius is Vargottama in Chart 2. According to Notable Horoscopes, Alexander succeeded his father philip II in Situm Dasa, Rahu Bhukti. Mark Saturn is lord of the l0th from the Ascendant and a Yogakaraka from Chandra Lagna, occupying a benefic sign and Mrigsira (2) owned by the Ascendant lord Mars.

Alexander’s father died by assassination under the same directions, The newly-born son of his father by Cleopatra and another cousin Augustus were also put to death by Alexander in the same Bhukti of Rahu.

Rahu is Vargottama in a Stira Rasi and Stira Navamsa in Satabhisha (3). He is the 5th Navamsa. Jatakabharanam and Hora Ratnam extol this Navamsa position of any planet saying that even if one planet is in its Panchamamsa (5th Navamsa), one becomes a king; and if that planet in addition be endowed with all kinds of strength, he will be an emperor. Satabhisha (3) has this advantage in addition to its quality to cure all diseases and to revitalize one. It has also the quality to remove all the obstacles in one’s progress which Alexander’s’ chart establishes.

Chart 3: Sri Ramanujacharya: Born April 4, 1017 A.D at about 12 noon at 11 N 14, 78 E 56 with a balance of 8 years 3 months 27 days of Rahu Dasa at birth.

chart3

In the case of Sri Ramanujacharya (Chart 3), Rahu at 43° 42′ in Taurus is in Panchama Navamsa, Pushkara Navamsa and Vargottama. Consequently, Rahu has triple advantages position-wise.

Sri Ramanujacharya sent away his wife in Jupiter Dasa, Rahu Bhukti and took sanyasa. Mark the position of Rahu in the 12th from the 7th lord (from the Moon) and the unique disposition of Jupiter from Chandra Lagna.

Rahu is in the 5th Navamsa of Taurus in Rohini (2) owned by the Ascendant lord Moon.

Rahu has a separating effect on relatives indicated by the Bhava lord and Nakshatra lord. Rahu is in the 12th from the Ascendant lord Moon and Jupiter who is the 9th and 6th lord from the Ascendant. From Chandra Lagna he is in the 12th. The Moon carries Rahu’s separating influence on Jupiter. Venus, Karaka for wife, is combust. Saturn, the 7th “lord from the Ascendant, and in the 7th from the Moon-sign spoils Jupiter by his separating aspect. Rahu, the materialist, is converted to the spiritual by association of its Nakshatra lord Moon with Vairagya and Gnana Karakas Jupiter and Saturn respectively. The Navamsa Ascendant lord Venus though in his own Nakshatra Bharani is combust in the sign of Mars and with Neecha Mercury and inimical Sun. Hence, Venus is weak. Thus bhoga or enjoyment was suppressed and Vairagya developed. Ketu, the Mokshakaraka, is in a Nakshatra ruled by Saturn. The influence of Saturn, Jupiter and Ketu together on the 4th or 4th lord is said to cause Vairagya. And the Moon or Manahkaraka in Mokshastana is aspected by Vairagyakaraka Saturn and is conjunct Gnanakaraka Jupiter.

In the case of Tilak (Chart 4), Rahu is at 358° 57′ in Pisces Rasi and Navamsa and is therefore, Vargottama. Tilak was sentenced to eighteen months rigorous imprisonment in September 1897 in Sun Dasa, Moon Bhukti. The Sun is in Pushya (2) ruled by Saturn. Saturn is the 7th and 8th lord posited in the 12th in Rahu’s Nakshatra Aridra.

Chart 4: Bala Gangadhara Tilak: Born July 23, 1856 at 6h. 24m. (LMT) at 18 N 32, 73 E 53 with a balance of 13 years 8 months 14 days of Mercury Dasa at birth.

chart4

Rahu’s placement in a Sarpa, Nigada and Vyala Drekanna coupled with the aspect of 8th lord Saturn on Rahu tilted the balance against Tilak. The Moon is in Raudra Drekanna in Revati (1) owned by the 12th lord Mercury who is in the 12th. Ketu is in Chitta (2) owned by the 5th and 10th lord in the 4th house. The Sun and the Moon have caused Bandana Yoga by virtue of the former joining the 11th lord in the Ascendant and the latter joining Rahu in the 9th aspected by Saturn. He was released in Vargottama Rahu’s Bhukti as Rahu could give the results of benefic Jupiter. It is seen that Rahu absorbs the good results of planets he conjuncts with. Here Vargottama Rahu is associated with the Ascendant lord Moon and 9th lord Jupiter. This led to his release and also name and fame.

Dr. B. V. Raman observes “The most outstanding combinations in this horoscope are: the glorified position of the lord of Ascendant in the 9th with the 9th lord and affliction of this combination by Saturn and Rahu, resulting in obstruction of the free flow of fortunate influences and the presence of Bandana Yogas or combinations for incarceration causing great suffering. Tilak suffered a lot for the country. He was a born fighter as revealed by the dominating position of Mars and he will be remembered forever for the inspiring legacy that he has left to India in the thought ‘Swaraj is my birthright’. He was essentially a man of religion as revealed by the position of Jupiter. It may be asked whether Jupiter-Rahu association has not caused Guru-Chandala Yoga. The answer would be that the Yoga stands neutralized by the fact that Rahu is in the constellation of Mercury and is removed from Jupiter by nearly 10°. Rahu’s situation in the Nakshatra of Mercury who is Mokshastanadhipati and the entire combination receiving the aspect of Saturn from Mokshastana gave him a living faith in God. Otherwise, he would not have said at the time of his conviction that ‘there are higher powers that rule the destinies of things and it may be the will of Providence that the cause which ^represent should prosper more by my suffering than by my remaining free’. Arishta Yogas for suffering evenly balanced with Raja Yogas and Ascendant and Ascendant lord fully fortified reveal Tilak’s stainless purity of life, immense sacrifice in the cause of the country, deep devotion to the people and principles, and the moral stuff and quality of the man which left him uncrowned king of India.”

Rahu at 358° 14′ is Vargottama in Pisces Rasi and Navamsa in George Bernard Shaw’s case (Chart 5). Dr. Raman observes that “In Rahu Dasa, he had smallpox which left him unscarred. From then on, he became an opponent of vaccination. His real financial prosperity began only from Jupiter Dasa and Venus Bhukti.

Chart 5: George Bernard Shaw: Born July 26, 1856 A.D at about midnight at 53 N 02, 6 W 16 with a balance of 6 years 6 months 18 days of Moon Dasa at birth.

chart5

Jupiter is Dhanakaraka and occupies the 11th and Venus as lord of Ascendant is in an Upachaya. Rahu Dasa extended till 1888 and Rahu enabled him to expand his intellectual outlook. Between 1876-1885 he wrote five novels”. It may be noted that Rahu is in Revati, owned by the 2nd and 5th lord Mercury. Rahu was to give the result of Mercury and the Navamsa lord of Pisces, namely, Jupiter. Thus the 5th and 11th connection and influence made him write five novels which brought him fame. Ketu, Vargottama in Virgo in Chitta (2) owned by 12th and 7th lord Mars, aspected by Jupiter from his own sign Pisces and own Navamsa Sagittarius brought in a lot of sarcasm and satire in his writings. He won the Nobel Prize in the Dasa of Mercury and Bhukti of Ketu, both lords being Vargottama.

Thus it is clear that Vargottama Rahu and Ketu carry all the qualities of giving Yogakaraka results. However, the degree of success and achievement varies according to the quality of the springboard of other planetary, Rasi and Navamsa influences. Even in the worst scenario, Vargottama Rahu and Ketu show a silver lining.
