Dasa of Mercury has not only been not brilliant or good, but poor. How and why?
During the course of the above discussion, when quoting Kumaraswamiyam stressing that the lord of a house must not be in a hidden house (the 6th or the 8th or the 12th) from the Ascendant, from the Moon and from his own house, I added that the planet should not be in a “hidden house” from the Ascendant lord as well. I have with me a Capricorn Ascendant horoscope with Mercury in it and the native has complained that the Dasa of Mercury has not only been not brilliant or good, but poor. How and why? For Capricorn Ascendant Mercury, though lord of the 6th and the 9th, is normally good, according to Bhavartha Ratnakara and even Parasara. And, when Mercury has joined or combined with Venus in the Ascendant, the period of Mercury should be brilliant. Actually, it was not only ordinary but poor and troublesome. The key is furnished by the bad exchange of houses between the Ascendant lord and Mercury. Saturn may be in the 6th. But, when Saturn becomes a benefic as lord of the Ascendant, he is not ideal in the 6th. And, Mercury is lord of the 6th, rather than the lord of the 9th due to the bad Parivartana or exchange, on account of the lord of the Ascendant being in the 6th with the lord of the 6th in the Ascendant, so that Dharmakarmadhipati Yoga (due to the 9th and the 10th lords) cannot be predicted and does not operate. The Ascendant lord, the ruling planet and the mother of a native, should avoid being in the 6th or the 8th or the 12th.
As already elucidated planets in the 6th, the 8th and the 12th (malefics in the 6th being somewhat excepted) and the lords of the 6th, the 8th and the 12th are evil and are responsible for all the ills and miseries of life. I have also indicated that the 12th is less evil than the 6th which is, in turn, is less evil than the 8th, which is the worst house!
“Tatratikshto ashtamah”
Rahu in the 8th without benefic aspect caused the serious Watergate scandal even in the case of Richard Nixon, whose horoscope shows two evil features: (i) Saturn lord of the 6th (and the 7th), a bitter enemy of lord of the Ascendant Sun, in the 10th and, (ii) Rahu in the 8th in Pisces, unaspected by Jupiter or Venus. And, he escaped impeachment due to Saturn exchanging places with Venus (as lord of the 7th in the 10th and lord of the 8th). But, even Venus, lord of the 3rd and the 10th, is a Maraka, as lord of the 3rd and the 10th (strongest Kendra) in the 7th, a Marakastana, so that even Venus Bhukti, in his Mercury Dasa was not free from danger to his position as President. Both Ketu Bhukti and even Venus Bhukti gave him a testing and trying time. Such is the evil of a dire malefic, Saturn, lord of the 6th and the 7th, a Maraka in the 10th and the occupation of the 8th by Rahu (Sanivd Rahu).
Chart 2 is of the late Sengalipuram Anantharama Deekshithar, a gifted orator on religious works Srimad Ramayana, Srimad Bhagavatam and the Mahabharatha which is a good example to illustrate the evil of planets in the 6th, the 8th or the 12th.
Thanks to Saraswati Yoga due to Mercury in the 9th (a Trikona), Venus in the 10th (a Kendra) and Jupiter too in the 5th (a Trikona), Jupiter or Vakpati being in his own house, Pisces, and thanks to the Sun lord of the 10th in the 9th and the Moon (waxing) lord of the 9th in the Ascendant, both being well-aspected by powerful Jupiter and. thanks to his running the Dasas of the Sun and the Moon, Yogakarakas for Scorpio Ascendant, he earned great name and fame and wealth, which simply poured in. He was a person with Mantra-Siddhi; Mark Jupiter in own house in the 5th. In the last stages of his life, he took to Sanyasa. His only child, a daughter, whose second son he adopted (Dawhitra or daughter’s son is praised, as equivalent to a son by the Sastras), put up a Shivalinga over his Samadhi and performed annual aradhana, on a grand scale, showing the truth of the dictum.
“Putraasshatagunam putree yadi paatre Vidheeyataam”
meaning, that a daughter is even superior to a son, in cases where she is given in marriage to a proper and deserving son-in-law.
But, while Mercury’s lordship of the 8th has been eliminated by Jupiter’s aspect on the Sun and Mercury, making them function as the lords of the 10th and 11th, and while Mars, as lord of the 6th in the 12th made him soft-spoken and tactful; he had a touch of leprosy, due to lord of the Ascendant in the 12th aspected by Saturn and unaspected by benefics (Saturn in the 3rd is good; but, his aspect on the Ascendant lord Mars is not at all good) and by Ketu in a watery sign in the 5th. But, by his faith, Mantrabala, and worship of Lord Sri Balakrishna at Guruvayur called Guruvayur Appan, whom he popularized by reciting Stotras from Narayana Bhattadri’s Narayaneeyam, the nasty disease got burnt out though slightly affecting his toes and fingers. For Scorpio Ascendant, Mars as lord of the 6th in the 12th is good, as he eliminates and liquidates enemies and rivals. And, even lord of Ascendant and the 6th may be in the 12th. But the Ascendant lord in the 12th aspected by Saturn is bad.
He was a man of immense and abiding faith in God and the Vedas and possessed strong will-power. Mark the Moon in the Ascendant, aspected by powerful Jupiter. But, a Neecha (debilitated) planet in the Ascendant without Neechabhanga (cancellation of debilitation) caused a defect in his constitution, which, however, was almost cured by Jupiter’s powerful aspect. Even after many years of his death, the All India Radio continued to relay his tape-recorded speeches. And his voice (rich and resonant) (mark Saturn, lord of the 3rd, in the 3rd enjoying the hidden (11th house aspect of Jupiter in the 5th in his own house) lives, just as his Chaitanya has been embalmed in his Samadhi at Salem.
