Navamsa
Navamsa chart shows the actual strength of the planet at the birth time. So in astrology it is believed that to get a healthy chart it is important to have an equally healthy Navamsa. Navamsa serves two purposes, one is to check the strength of the birth chart, second is to check marriage compatibility. The house of marriage is the 7th house that help in accurate prediction about native’s spouse.

Navamsa is also the most important of the divisional charts. Here each sign is divided into nine equal part of 3°, 20′ each.

In a Movable sign, the first Navamsa belongs to the same sign and the remaining eight Navamsa follow in regular order from it.

In the Fixed sign, the first Navamsa belongs to the sign falling in the ninth house from it, and the remaining eight Navamsa follow in regular order from it.

In the case of the Mixed sign the first Navamsa belongs to the sign falling in the fifth house from its and the remaining eight Navamsa follow in regular order from it. It is said a planet gives it effect more certainly accordance to its Navamsa than its rasi position. When a planet occupies the same sign in the rasi chart as also the Navamsa chart, it called Vargottama.

In the horoscope if you find a planet in the same sign both in the rasi and Navamsa, it is called Vargottama. This means in the rasi, it is the most powerful planet, and it gains strength. Having vargottama is highly beneficial, it is a very important tool in astrology, this concept  can only be adopted if the native’s judgment is based on divisional chart.

Dwadasamsa
This comprises one-twelth of a sign, and is equivalent to 2°, 30′. The first dwadasamsa of a sign belongs to the same sign, the remaining eleven dwadasamsa falls in subsequent even signs in regular order.

Trimsamsa
The Trimsamsa chart is used to check unfavourable indications in a horoscope. A rasi is divided into 30 parts, means one degree in each part.  It is considered as one-thirteenth division of a sign. Actually each sign is divided into five unequal parts, and each part belongs to one of the five planet from Mars to Saturn.

If Trimsamsa in an odd sign, the first 5 degree go to Mars. The next 5 degree to Saturn, then next 8 degree to Jupiter, followed by 7th to Mercury, and finally the last 5th degree to Venus. The order gets reversed in the case of Even sign. Here, the 1st 5 degree goes to Venus; the next 7 to Mercury, 8 degree goes to Jupiter, the next 5 degree to Saturn and the final 5 degrees to Mars. The Sun and Moon have no place in Trimsamsa.
