More on Evils of Dustanas - Part 2A

Here is the horoscope of a female(Rasi:- Cancer – Ascendant and the Moon; Leo- Saturn; Sagittarius -Mars; Pisces- Venus(comb); Aries- Sun and Mercury; and Gemini- Jupiter) who lived long, was extremely pious and devoted to Lord Rama but whose life was one of unmitigated misery and grief. The lord of the Ascendant in the Ascendant with Jupiter, lord of the 6th, in the 12th made her constitution sound and her health, good and her life, long. The lord of the 7th in the 2nd with the 2nd lord exalted in the 10th got her married to a husband with 48 and odd acres of wet land. But, her Venus Dasa (Venus is in combustion) gave her five abortions and 14 or 15 children, out of whom 8 died. Only one survived her and performed the Sraddha Karmas (obsequicies) for both his father and then, his widowed mother. The lord of the 9th in the 12th and lord of the 5th and the 10th in the 6th (aspected by Jupiter) made the 9th and the 10th Yoga nominal and poor as both the 9th and the 10th lords are in Dustanas —the 12th and the 6th. And the 12th lord in the 10th with the lord of the 2nd gave heavy expenses so that the lands were reduced to 12 acres. That is why Jataka Chandrika says that if the lords of Kendras and Konas associate without the association of other (evil) lords, then only there is Raja yoga.

 There is another rule, that the lords of the 9th and the 10th cannot and do not give Raja Yoga, if either of those lords owns the 8th or the 11th or if they are associated with, that is, combined with or aspected by the lords of the 8th and the 11th. All readers can easily and readily appreciate that the lord of the 8th will certainly mar the Yoga and spoil the broth, if he conjoins or aspects the 9th and the 10th lords.

Why should the lord of the 11th, however, spoil prosperity when the 11th represents income from profession and prosperity? The reason-the lord of the 11th has stress on earnings and acquisitions and if he is given free play with the lord of the 9th and the 10th, a native may abuse his position and power to enrich himself by feathering his own nest. That may tarnish the native’s reputation and land him in trouble which may lead to downfall. For instance, for Scorpio Ascendant, the Sun and the Moon, lords of the 10th and 9th, will be marred by Mercury, lord of the 8th and the 11th, joining them. I shall illustrate this with the horoscope[ Rasi:- Scorpio – Ascedant; Sagittarius – Mars: Capricorn – Saturn; Aquarius – Ketu; Taurus – Jupiter; Leo ‘ -Venus and Rahu; and Virgo – the Sun, the Moon and Mercury.] of an employee of the Revenue Department. He rose steadily to the post of a Deputy Collector when he got into trouble and was dismissed on alleged grounds of corruption. His suit in the Sub Court questioning his dismissal from service, as wrongful and illegal or unlawful, was also dismissed. He is now dependent on one of his sons. Kapila Nadi praised his chart, as that of a Niyuthathipan or lakhier and never predicted his downfall, as it seemed to view that the Sun, the Moon and Mercury in the 11th were good and beneficial as the lords of the 9th, the 10th and the 11th in the 11th, and seemed to ignore the lord of the 6th in the 12th, the lord of the 12th in the 10th and Mercury’s lordship of the 8th as well.

 Thus, generally speaking, subject to clear exceptions, any planet in the 6th or the 8th or the 12th, particularly the 8th, is bad and the lords of the 6th, the 8th and the 12th are like poison even a drop of which will spoil a jug of milk. It is always better and safer for the lord of the Ascendant and of the 9th and the 10th to be isolated from the lords of the 6th or the 8th or the 12th. The exceptions are furnished by the lord of the 8th being in th 6th or the 12th, or the lord of 8th being in the 6th or the 8th.

स्थान एव नियोज्यन्ते भृत्यश्चभरणानि ||

meaning, that it is the place or position that makes a servant or jewels shine.

Even so that house is weak whose lord is ill-placed in the 6th or the 8th or the 12th. If the lord of the 10th is in the 6th or the 8th or the 12th, even a highly educated and talented person may be unemployed or may suffer for want of sufficient employment, unless the planet “fallen” in the 6th or the 8th or the 12th is redeemed and retrieved by the powerful aspect of a powerful benefic.

For, the Sloka runs:-

दुष्टस्थितोवापी  यदान भोगः

पापारिनीचांशक संयुतोयः |

स्वतुंगमित्रंशकराशियुक्तः शुभीक्ष व यदि

शोभनस्यात  ||

meaning, that even when badly placed, in bad Amsas or in a Dustana (the 6th or the 8th or in the 12th), if a planet is in his own house or in his exaltation or at least in a friendly house, and is also well aspected by a (powerful) benefic, he becomes auspicious.

 Thus, if Saturn, say, for Aries Ascendant is in the 12th in Pisces and well aspected by powerful Jupiter from Cancer, after initial disappointments and even bitter struggles, the native prospers in his profession. But, prosperity in respect of the 10th house will never equal, say, the flourishing 10th house, denoted by Saturn in the 9th in Sagittarius, with Jupiter also there or aspected by Jupiter from his position in the 5th house in Leo. For, when the lord of die 10th and the 11th is in the 9th, for Aries, Karma-Badhaka become Sadhaka; and, when blessed by Jupiter’s aspect from Leo or by conjunction with Jupiter in Sagittarius, he elevates the native to the highest pedestal. For instance, an F.C.S. officer rose to be the topmost Military Accountant-General, superseding his senior; and, he had Jupiter and Saturn in the 9th in Sagittarius. True, Saturn in Pisces in the 12th, as Karma-Badhaka is not at all so bad as Saturn, lord of the 9th and the 10th for Taurus, in the 12th in Aries in debility; and, when aspected by powerful Jupiter is even auspicious eventually. But, he cannot and does not give the highest flights in a career for two reasons. Firstly, the redemption of the lord of the 10th, ill-placed in the 12th, is not the same as reinforcement of a well-placed lord of the 10th in the 9th. Secondly, Jupiter in the 9th in Sagittarius, as lord of the 9th, avoids the evil of his ownership of the 12th; and Jupiter, lord of the 9th and the 12th in Leo, is in the 6th from the 12th and in the 9th from the 9th, aspecting the 9th, his own house of fortune (the 9th).
